So... a brief introduction to what my blog is like. Basically, it'll probably serve as a warning for most of you to run away and hide from the insanity that may ensue. I need to start off by saying I'm a geek--and proud of it! I'm into sci-fi, fantasy, and virtually anything with superheroes. I'm lucky to have friends and family who share my tastes, but I'm sure any other fellow geeks know how it is sometimes--sometimes, you have stuff you just want to talk about. Okay, to be more accurate, you could give dissertations that go on for days--not likely to be the most organized or effective ones, but you sure won't run out of material! Well... basically, this blog is going to be my place to vent those ideas somewhere where my family and friends no longer has to deal with me talking about it all the time. I'm hoping other people will find some of these thoughts interesting--though I fully admit this is mostly for my benefit. ;)
There are a few basic things to know about me. I'm currently a 20-year-old college student, soon to be 21. I'm a girl... okay, woman. I'm technically an adult now, but I probably act more like a 12-year-old boy, in terms of my taste in fiction! Like I said before, I'm a geek--and specifically, I'm a huge fan of a lot of cartoons and animated series on these subjects. I love animated TV--writing as a serial, the freedom of animation and writing for kids (yes, the freedom--I'll probably get to that eventually), choreography, voice acting... don't get me started on voice acting. (I've started identifying actors in commercials.) I also really enjoy video games, RPGS, etc.--although, in the case of video games, I almost enjoy watching them as much as playing them. I'm not all that good, but some video games are good enough at being an interactive story that I enjoy it, even when my brother is using the controller. I'm an aspiring writer; my dream job is writing my own TV shows someday. In the likely event that that doesn't happen, though, I'm hoping to at least publish my stories. I've got a pile of them that I hope to finish--eventually!
Like I said, this blog is mostly just venting whatever's on my mind. It might be a recent news item, it might be something I've been watching a lot recently and I've just had on my mind--it might from completely nowhere. I might do reviews of specific things, but since my primary passion has a lot to do with TV shows and I don't like doing overviews of the whole show, that probably won't happen much. (I actually tried that the first time I did this blog--hated the formula I forced on myself and never wrote much.) My plan is to mostly keep it about things I love, find interesting, or really just want to discuss--rather than spewing vitriol about some hated target every post. Make no mistake, though; that'll probably happen. ^^'
The last thing I want to do is explain the title of my blog--maybe it'll give you an idea of what to expect. Basically, "The Heart of Adventure" comes from the two things I expect in a good story, of any kind. "Adventure" meaning a good plot--not necessarily an adventure, though those are good!--intrigue, drama, etc., that works, too. It's just that I have a bent towards good vs. evil kind of conflict, and am not particularly fond of stories where the main conflict is whether or not these two characters will stop breaking up with each other so they can get back together.... The other part, "Heart", basically has to do with my emotional engagement. Usually, it has to do with the characters--do I care about them at all and such. But it also applies to other things--is it a well-crafted world that feels real? Do the writers use subtlety to get their points across, or bang you over the head with it? Do they seem to care about their story at all? A good story, and the ones I tend to fall in love with, will have a good amount of both of these.
So, yeah, that's all I've got right now. You'll probably see from me again soon!
One more thing: I plan to keep this blog generally G-rated, so to speak. Please respond in kind in the comments. :)
